1/4" Open Reel Analog Audio Recording Tape

All open reel recording tape in this section is ¼" wide format. All tape lengths of 1200 feet or 1800 feet are on 7" plastic reels and have the standard ¼" diameter mounting hole with the three keyways. All lengths of 2500 feet or 3600 feet are on 10½" metal or plastic NAB reels (see product descriptions) unless they're specified as being pancakes which are rolls of tape shipped without metal flanges. Pancakes are shipped in cardboard ECO packs and come on a USR/RMGI/AMPEX/3M compatible flange ready hub (no flanges included...just add two RMGI flanges and a USR hardware set and you can make a finished reel.) Hubs are the plastic or metal part that the tape is wound on, and also the part that the screws go through to mount the metal flanges. All RMGI EMTEC tapes come in a space saving setup box.

Note: Some of the RMGI 1/4" tape on 10.5" metal reels have an option for a solid back flange. Why? To help keep dust or dirt on the surface of your tape deck's front panel from being attracted onto the tape through windage holes on the bottom flange. This solid flange design is meant for use on a 2 track mastering deck and not consumer "flip-the-reels-over-to-record-on-the-other-side" use as you might with a 1/4 track stereo deck. If you're using a 1/4 track stereo deck and want to record "on the other side", you may find the solid flange almost impossible to thread after flipping the reels. In this case, do not order the solid back flange option.
